Louis César Constantin de Rohan-Guéméné (born March 24, 1697 in Paris ; † March 11, 1779 ibid) was a cardinal of the Roman Church and Bishop of Strasbourg .

biography

He was born in Paris as the seventh son of Charles III. von Rohan , 5th Duke of Montbazon , Prince of Guéméné , (1655–1727) and his second wife Charlotte Elisabeth de Cochefilet (1657–1719). His older brother Armand Jules (1695–1762) was Archbishop of Reims .

First he studied canon law at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1720 he joined the Order of Knights of the Maltese and became captain of the Order of Malta's fleet . After completing his studies in Paris, he obtained a licentiate in canon law. In Strasbourg, where he was canon , he rose to become provost. He was also abbot of Lire and later of Saint-Epure. At the same time he was also the Grand Almosier of the Kingdom of France.

The cathedral chapter of Strasbourg elected him bishop on September 23, 1756, as confirmed by Pope Benedict XIV on January 3, 1757. Cardinal Frédéric-Jérôme de la Rochefoucauld de Roye donated him episcopal ordination on March 16, 1757 in Paris . From Pope Clement XIII. Created cardinal priest on November 23, 1761 , he never received a titular church and did not take part in any conclave .

He died on March 11, 1779 in his residence on Rue de Varennes in Paris.
