Frédéric-Jérôme de la Rochefoucauld de Roye (born July 16, 1701 in Versailles , † April 29, 1757 in Paris ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

After completing a master's degree in theology in Paris , he became Abbot of St-Romain de Blaye in 1717 , Abbot of Beauport and Prior of Lanville and Bonne-Nouvelle in 1722 . Later he also held the office of Vicar General of Rouen .

Pope Benedict XIII appointed him on July 6, 1729 Archbishop of Bourges . On August 7, 1729 he received the episcopal ordination by Louis de la Vergne de Tressan , Archbishop of Rouen , co-consecrators were Étiene-Joseph de La Fare , Bishop of Laon , and Étienne-René Potiers des Gesvres , Bishop of Beauvais . Prior of La Charité sur Loire since April 1732 , he became coadjutor of the Abbot of Cluny on September 29, 1738 .

After issuing a new edition of the breviary in 1741 , he became commander of the Order of the Holy Spirit on February 2, 1742 and from 1742 to 1745 Grand Almosenier of the Kingdom of France. From 1745 to 1747 France's ambassador to the Apostolic See , he became Abbot of Cluny in April 1747 . He was also President of the Clergy Assembly in 1742, 1750, 1753, and 1756.

Pope Benedict XIV created him cardinal priest on April 10, 1747 and awarded him the titular church of Sant'Agnese fuori le mura on May 15, 1747 .
