François Armand Auguste von Rohan-Soubise (born December 1, 1717 in Paris , † June 28, 1756 in Saverne ) was a French clergyman, bishop of Strasbourg and Grand Almosenier of France ( Grand Aumônier de France ).

Life

He was born on December 1, 1717 in Paris as the second son of Jules François von Rohan , Prince de Soubise , (1697-1724) and his wife Anne Julie de Melun , Princesse de 'Epinoy (1698-1724) and was the great-nephew of Armand I. Gaston Maximilien de Rohan-Soubise . First he studied theology at the Sorbonne in Paris and was appointed Prince of Tournon and Abbot of Ventadour. In 1736 he became prince abbot of the combined monasteries of Murbach and Lüders . On September 2, 1740, he was elected to the cathedral chapter of Strasbourg, although he had not yet reached the required age. He was ordained a priest on December 23, 1741 . In 1742 he was appointed titular bishop of Tolemaida , at the same time he was elected coadjutor of his great-uncle, with the right to succeed him. He was promoted to cardinal in 1747 and finally took over the office of Bishop of Strasbourg in 1749.

He died at the age of 38 and was buried in the Saverne Collegiate Church.

Other offices

Like his great-uncle he was admitted to the Académie française and in 1741 took over the 9th chair, which Charles-Armand-René de La Trémoille had held before him. He was also appointed Grand Chaplain of France between 1745 and 1748 , one of the prestigious offices at the royal court; and the office of Rector of the University of Paris.
