Grand-Auverné ( Breton : Arwerneg-Veur ; Gallo : Graund-Auvernaé ) is a French municipality with 768 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire ; it is part of the arrondissement of Châteaubriant-Ancenis and the canton of Châteaubriant (until 2015: Moisdon-la-Rivière ). The inhabitants are called Alvernes .
geography
Grand-Auverné is located about 58 kilometers south-southeast of Rennes and about 49 kilometers north-northeast of Nantes . The Don River limits the municipality in the northwest. Grand-Auverné is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Petit-Auverné in the north, Vallons-de-l'Erdre in the east, Riaillé in the south, La Meilleraye-de-Bretagne in the west and Moisdon-la-Rivière in the north-west.
