Paul Friedrich Wehrle (born June 7, 1940 in Singen ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in Freiburg .

Life

Paul Wehrle was a regular soldier in the German Armed Forces from 1961 to 1963 . After his theological and philosophical training, he was ordained a priest in 1969 . Between 1971 and 1973 he completed specialist training at the Institute for Catechetics and Homiletics in Munich. In 1974, he was with a work on the doctrine of preaching under the influence of the Enlightenment process of doctor of theology doctorate . From 1975 to 1979 he was a lecturer and Subregens in the seminary of St. Peter, at the same time a lecturer at the theological faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . In 1979 he received a reputation as a Professor of Religious Education and Pastoral Theology at the University of Eichstätt ; since 1990 he has also been an honorary professor at the University of Freiburg.

Wehrle was appointed titular bishop of Nova Germania and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Freiburg in 1981 by Pope John Paul II . Archbishop Oskar Saier consecrated him on July 5, 1981 as bishop. Co -consecrators were Bishop Alois Brems von Eichstätt and Freiburg Auxiliary Bishop Karl Gnädinger . His motto is In spiritus fortitudine (“In the power of the spirit”).

From 1981 to 2000 he was Episcopal Vicar for youth issues. In 2002/2003 he was diocesan administrator of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. Since 2002 he has been episcopal vicar for universities and university pastoral care , and since 1999 cathedral provost and thus chairman of the metropolitan chapter . He is also responsible for the Catholic Academy in Freiburg and the representative of the German Bishops' Conference for the episcopal scholarships KAAD (Catholic Academic Foreign Nationals Service) and Cusanuswerk . He is also a member of the Pastoral Commission of the German Bishops' Conference and its working group “Catechesis and Mission” as well as deputy chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Science and Culture.

On July 30, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for health reasons. He has his retirement home in Liggeringen , a district of Radolfzell on Lake Constance, and works there as a subsidiary in pastoral care.
