The Konradsblatt is the diocese newspaper of the Archdiocese of Freiburg , published since 1917 .

history

In 1916, Badenia Verlag took the initiative and began talks with the archdiocese about the establishment of a Catholic entertainment paper. The publishing house found itself in economic difficulties, which it hoped to eliminate with a newspaper authorized by the archbishopric and the archbishopric wanted to react to the social changes with intensive journalistic pastoral care.

A contract was signed between the two partners on December 6th, after the Archbishop of Freiburg, Thomas Nörber, had also been more closely involved in the discussions since October . In December 1916 a sample number was printed and from January 1917 the sheet appeared under the title St. Konradsblatt: Familienblatt der Erzdiözese Freiburg weekly in Badenia Verlag, Karlsruhe. There was an interruption in World War II . Since 1962 the paper has been entitled: Konradsblatt: Weekly newspaper for the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

The name of the newspaper is reminiscent of the diocese saint Konrad von Konstanz (around 900–975), one of the first bishops of Konstanz. The Archdiocese of Freiburg was established in 1821 after secularization and includes large parts of the former Diocese of Constance .

The content of the Konradsblatt focuses on current ecclesiastical events in the archbishopric, in Germany and in the universal church. The newspaper sees itself as a spiritual companion for the whole family.

The editorial office is in Karlsruhe . Editor-in-chief has been Klaus Gaßner since January 1, 2020, succeeding Klaus Nientiedt, who has been in office since 1998.

Edition

The Konradsblatt is the second largest diocese newspaper in Germany after Kirche + Leben . In the first quarter of 2018, the weekly newspaper had a sold circulation of 38,869 copies, of which 38,412 were subscribers.
