Erich Schwertner

Erich Schwertner (born October 10, 1918 in Neunkirchen (Saar) , † January 9, 1965 in Saarbrücken ) was a German politician of the FDP / DPS .

Life and work

Schwertner was the son of a moving walkway and a civil engineer by profession . After he was released from Soviet captivity , he was sent to the Saar in 1950 as a contact for the Foreign Office .

Political party

After the DPS was banned , Schwertner was commissioned by the federal government to found the Democratic People's Party (DV) so that at least one pro-German party could be present in Saarland. However, the DV failed due to massive hindrance by the French and a financial scandal at the five percent hurdle . After the DPS was re-approved, the DV joined it and Schwertner became third chairman.

After the Saarland joined the Federal Republic of Germany , the DPS became the Saar regional association of the FDP , so that Schwertner also became a member of the Liberals. From 1958 to 1960 he was a member of the FDP federal executive committee .

Schwertner was a member of the state parliament in Saarland from 1955 to 1960 .

On January 4, 1957, Schwertner was sent to the German Bundestag by the Saarland state parliament . There he joined the FDP parliamentary group , like all DPS members . At the end of the electoral term, Schwertner left the Bundestag again.

Public offices

From June 4, 1957 to February 26, 1959, Schwertner was Minister for Public Works and Reconstruction of the Saarland , having previously been State Commissioner for Reconstruction since January 1956. From 1960 he withdrew completely from politics.
