Campegius Vitringa the Younger (born March 24, 1693 in Franeker ; † January 11, 1723 ibid) was a Dutch Reformed theologian.

Life

The son of Campegius Vitringa the Elder attended school in his hometown and was promoted by his close relative, the professor of the Greek language Lambert Bos (1670-1717). In 1708 he moved to Franeker University , where he attended the lectures of his father, Wilhelm Coetier (1647–1723), Lambert Bos, Ruard Andala (1665–1727) and Wijer Willem Muys (1682–1744). Like his father, he shifted his studies to theology, attended Leiden University and Utrecht University . After he had held his dissertation de facie et posterioribus Dei , he received his doctorate in theology in 1715 .

Since he was offered a position as high school professor of theology and rector of the high school in Zerbst in 1716 , efforts were made to keep him in Franeker by being appointed professor of theology at the University of Franeker in 1716 . He worked at his father's side for a few more years. However, a year after the death of his father, he suffered from a severe fever, from which he died.
