Massimiliano Fuksas (born January 9, 1944 in Rome ) is an Italian architect and designer , humanist , poet and painter . Fuksas has been working with his wife Doriana O. Mandrelli Fuksas for over 30 years. Both are partners in Studio Fuksas , which has offices in Rome, Paris, Shenzhen and Dubai.

Life

Massimiliano Fuksas completed his architecture studies in Rome in 1969. In 1967 he opened his first own architecture studio in Rome. His field of activity was initially in Italy, in the 1980s he shifted the focus to France . In 1989 he founded in Paris , another studio, followed in 1993, also in Paris, a second office. In 1995 Fuksas finally opened his third studio in Vienna and his fourth studio in 1997 in Frankfurt am Main . In spring 2008, he opened another office in Shenzhen . He was artistic director of the section of Architecture at the end of 2001 Biennale in Venice . Fuksas was visiting professor at various universities in Europe and the USA , such as the Art Academy in Stuttgart , the École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris, the Institute for Design and Architecture at the University of Hanover , the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Columbia University in New York.

Since 1995 he has been a member of the advisory board for street design in Berlin, from 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the design advisory board of the city of Salzburg . For a long time he has included urban planning problems in his studies, especially those relating to the suburbs. He has been writing a weekly column in L'Espresso magazine since 2000 . In 2002 he became an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and in 2003 a member of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) in Sofia .

Works (selection)

One of his more recent works, the 137 m high Vienna Twin Tower is a transparent construction made of glass and steel and was erected in Vienna on Wienerberg . Another is the Europark shopping center in Salzburg .

In 2005, the new fair designed by Fuksas opened at the gates of Milan . The exhibition center with 345,000 m² of exhibition space and 60,000 m² of outdoor areas was also the exhibition venue for Expo 2015 .

Fuksas designed the MyZeil shopping center for the large-scale Palais Quartier project in Frankfurt am Main , which was completed in mid-2010 . In October 2013, the renovation of the former Unione Militare building from 1901 in the Roman Via del Corso was completed with a glass dome designed by Fuksas for the Benetton fashion group ; the building has since been taken over by the new owner H&M .

The Nuovo Centro Congressi conference center designed by Fuksas in the Roman district of Eur , also known as La Nuvola (the cloud) after its shape , was originally due to open in 2013. Completion was planned for the end of 2016 after considerable financing problems. The opening took place on October 29, 2016.
