The MyZeil is accessed on six floors with what was once the longest internal self-supporting escalator in Europe at 42 m . The total gross area under the structure, which is vaulted with around 3,200 triangular glass elements, is 77,000 square meters, while the retail trade on the lower three floors accounts for around 52,000 square meters. Anchor tenants are a Rewe store (groceries) in the basement , Anson's Herrenhaus (men's outfitter with many leading fashion labels ) on three floors and Saturn (electronics and household appliances store ) on 7,500 square meters on the third / fourth floor . On the upper floors there is a “gastro boulevard” with restaurants, a fitness club ( Fitness First ) with a high-level swimming pool and a play and supervision area for children. Around 97 percent of the almost 100 shops were rented when they opened, but not all of them were occupied. The price per square meter should be up to 485 euros.

The architect is Massimiliano Fuksas from Rome . The engineering office Knippers Helbig from Stuttgart is responsible for the structural planning of the steel and glass construction. Rainwater from the almost 6,000 square meters of roof area is collected, cleaned and fed into the domestic water cycle of the house. At the beginning of 2008, the shell of the shopping center was completed and the interior work began.

The design has some constructive weaknesses. In winter, for example, the main entrance had to be protected from falling ice and snow with the help of a temporary portal. In 2013 the entrance area was revised so that a permanently installed roof now protects the entrance.

Naming controversy and opening

The investor presented the name MyZeil to the public on November 10, 2008 in the presence of Frankfurt's Mayor Petra Roth. The name emphasizes the historical roots of the location and can also be pronounced similarly in German and English. The mayor described the naming as "downright ingenious". After a wave of sometimes fierce criticism, which was expressed, among other things, in letters to the editor in the local press, the investor once again expressly announced on November 24th that he would stick to the name.

Due to the large number of visitors, visitors were only admitted in batches on the first days after the opening. After two weeks the mark of one million visitors was exceeded.

Transport links and parking

MyZeil has a large car park with 1,390 parking spaces on 4 floors, 900 of which are public. It is open all day and can also be used on Sundays or public holidays. The MyZeil is well connected to traffic via the Hauptwache train station. The Zeil can be reached via an S-Bahn station and two underground stations.

Shops and floors

The MyZeil has 6 levels. In the basement there is a REWE store and access to the parking garage. The largest Saturn store in Frankfurt is located on 7,500 square meters. It extends from the 3rd to the 4th floor.
