Maria Theresia May

Maria Theresia May , pseudonym A. Wichodil (born January 9, 1851 in Bielitz (then Austrian Silesia ), † September 22, 1927 in Opava ) was an Austrian journalist and writer .

Life

Maria Theresia May moved with her mother to Troppau in 1866, where she first trained as a governess in private lessons , then attended the teacher training institute. Here one of her professors recognized her talent as a writer. After passing her exams with distinction, May wrote her first novel Irene .

May taught at the elementary school in Karlsbad , but had to give up this activity for health reasons, whereupon she gave private lessons in Opava and worked as a writer.

In her works May dealt with the emancipation of women and pedagogical questions, but mainly devoted herself to youth literature with youth literature, stories and poems and the publication of the Austrian youth calendar. May also worked for several specialist journals and as a reporter for educational and commercial areas, she wrote reviews of the theater in the state capital of Silesia and herself published the educational magazine Die Mädchenschule .

As a speaker, May dealt with educational topics, but also aesthetics and literature.
