The Football League Second Division 1959/60 was the 57th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 22, 1959 and turned on April 30, 1960.

Second division champion was Aston Villa and also the second-placed Cardiff City rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1960/61, the two first division clubs Leeds United and Luton Town ranked in the table below . Hull City and Bristol City had to relegate from the Second Division to the Football League Third Division . Instead of the two clubs, the third division winners FC Southampton and third division champions Norwich City took the vacant positions in the following season 1960/61 .
