Paulino Fernandes Madeca

Paulino Fernandes Madeca (born November 28, 1927 in Chingolo in Cabinda , Angola , † January 9, 2008 in Luanda , Angola) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Cabinda .

Life

Madeca entered the seminary in 1940 , studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Luanda, and was ordained there on July 20, 1958 .

On July 22, 1983 he was appointed titular bishop of Egnatia and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Luanda by Pope John Paul II . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Delegate in Angola, Archbishop Fortunato Baldelli , on October 9 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Eduardo André Muaca , Archbishop of Luanda, and Oscar Lino Lopes Fernandes Braga , Bishop of Benguela .

On July 2, 1984, he was appointed the first bishop of the Cabinda diocese , which was founded in the same year from the Luanda Archdiocese.

Fernandes Madeca campaigned against state injustices, the unsatisfactory living conditions of the population and for the observance of human rights in Cabinda.

Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on February 11, 2005. He died in Luanda Military Hospital and was buried in Cabinda.
