Theodor Märcker

Theodor Märcker (spelling also Märker ) (born April 18, 1796 in Isselburg ; † January 9, 1876 in Dortmund ) was a German local politician.

Live and act

Theodor Märcker came from an old, respected Hattinger family, whose members worked as Protestant pastors in the region in the 16th and 17th centuries. Märcker's grandfather was a Lutheran pastor in Isselburg for 56 years, his father mayor in Isselburg and tax advisor.

After training in administration at the regional office in Essen , which was headed by his brother Alexander Märcker, Märcker was appointed mayor of Werden on October 1, 1819 at the age of 23 . Until the abolition of joint administration in 1843, Märcker also held the office of Kettwig in personal union. Then he was replaced by Heinrich von Rosenthal in Kettwig . After not being re-elected in Werden, his office ended on January 23, 1851.

On April 14, 1851, Märcker was elected mayor of the city of Steele and was confirmed by the supervisory authority for twelve years. The inauguration took place on May 6th of that year. At the same time he was mayor of the mayorry of Steele-Land , to which Rellinghausen and Überruhr belonged. In 1863, after twelve years, he did not stand for re-election for reasons of age.
