Dirk Metz (born January 9, 1957 in Siegen ) was State Secretary in the Hessian State Chancellery and spokesman for the Hessian state government , today he works as a communications consultant in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

After his military service, an internship at the Siegener Zeitung and subsequent work as an editor at the Siegener Zeitung, Dirk Metz studied political science as well as economic , constitutional and social history in Bonn . In his home country he was a city councilor and district member of the CDU . Then he was press spokesman for the CDU Hamburg and editor at the Westfalen-Blatt in Bielefeld . Dirk Metz also worked as press spokesman for the CDU Hessen and the CDU parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament . Since the CDU's victory in the 1999 state elections , Metz has been State Secretary and spokesman for the Hessian state government. With the resignation of Prime Minister Roland Koch , Dirk Metz left office in 2010 and was put into temporary retirement. Michael Busser became his successor .

In 2010 he started his own business as a freelance communications consultant with an office in Frankfurt am Main , including working as a media consultant to the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Stefan Mappus (CDU), until March 2011 . He advises companies on communication issues, including crisis communication, and organizes workshops for press and public relations work.

Metz regularly publishes guest articles and columns in German daily newspapers. Since July 2017 he has been one of the guest commentators of the Rhein Main publishing group ( AZ Mainz , Darmstädter Echo , Wiesbadener Kurier ).

In the 2009/2010 winter semester, Metz had a teaching position at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences . In June 2013, Dirk Metz was appointed to the PR advisory board at Kiel University of Applied Sciences. Metz has also been a jury member of the PresseFoto Hessen-Thüringen photo competition since 2014.

Consulting cases

In 2012, Metz temporarily advised the Limburg diocese on the construction of the bishopric on Domberg, which has been criticized for its high costs. After six weeks, the contract was terminated at Metz's request.

A Munich surgery professor charged with homicide on demand , whose trial was later discontinued, hired Metz as a consultant in 2014.

In July 2014 Dirk Metz took over the communication of the Main-Taunus-Kliniken in Bad Soden am Taunus. A midwife, against whom the Munich public prosecutor's office is investigating on suspicion of a four-fold murder attempt at the Munich-Großhadern University Hospital , previously worked in Bad Soden.

Dirk Metz advised the accused in the case of suspected breach of trust against the former President of the European Business School, Christopher Jahns , as well as in the subsequent public liability suit.

From October 2016 to January 2017, Metz accompanied the communication and public relations work of the expert commission "Police investigations and penal execution in terrorist suicide bombers in the Albakr case" under the direction of the former Federal Constitutional Judge Professor Herbert Landau . This was used to clarify the entire process from identification to the failed access to the suicide of terror suspect Jaber Albakr on October 12 in a cell in the prison in Leipzig.

Metz is the spokesman for the family of the murdered Kassel District President Walter Lübcke . Lübcke was on 1st / 2nd June 2019 was killed by a headshot in front of his home. The Lübckes family takes an active part in the trial of Stephan E. and Markus H. as a joint plaintiff in the prosecution. Together with the criminal lawyer Holger Matt, who represents the family in the criminal proceedings and in the main hearing before the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court, Metz takes care of the bereaved.

Since 2013, Dirk Metz has been conveying personalities from different areas, including Heiner Brand , Guido Knopp , Bert Rürup or Helmut Markwort , as speakers to companies, banks and savings banks or associations.

Sports

From 1991 to October 2018 Metz was the hall spokesman for the German national handball team and sat at the microphone at 350 international matches. The first international match he commented on was the match between Germany and Yugoslavia in the ball sports hall in Frankfurt am Main . At the 2007 Handball World Cup , he was the hall speaker in the Kölnarena . From 1996 to 2010, Metz co-organized the Wallau Midsummer Run. He was also the course spokesman for Ironman Germany , the European championship in long-distance triathlon in Frankfurt for many years . From 2005 to 2018 Dirk Metz attended the most important hammer throw meeting in Germany at the microphone in Fränkisch-Crumbach and is an honorary member of the Franconian-Crumbach hammer throw club. Dirk Metz has been a member of the supervisory board of Bundesliga soccer club FC Schalke 04 since 2015 . In January 2017 he was appointed to the board of trustees of the DFB-Kulturstiftung.

Since October 2013, Metz and his agency have been participating in the “Springboard Future” initiative run by Deutsche Sporthilfe .

In December 2011 he had a guest role alongside Claus Theo Gärtner as a correctional officer in the episode “The Matula Case” in the ZDF crime series Ein Fall für Zwei .

Metz is Protestant and married to the former Hessian Minister of Social Affairs, Silke Lautenschläger , who is now a board member of Ergo Insurance Group AG . The two live in Modautal , Herchenrode district , in the Odenwald on the former farm of his wife's family. He has three grown children from his first marriage.
