history

Background: Eppstein Hospital

In 1945 the city of Eppstein took over the Kinderlandverschickung auxiliary hospital with 30 beds. After the takeover there was an expansion to 96 beds. In 1955, 48 additional beds were set up with the help of the district. Furthermore, a new kitchen and a new operating room were built. In 1960 more hospital rooms were set up in the nursing home.

On April 1, 1958, the Eppsteiner Klinik was sponsored by a special purpose association from the district and town of Eppstein. This Zweckverband was the predecessor of today's GmbH. In January 1962, the district took over sole responsibility and arranged for an expansion of another 100 beds. This year there were a total of 525 beds for 130,000 residents in the district. According to the needs analysis, there was a shortage of 385 beds in the district. For spatial reasons, however, an expansion at the Eppstein location was not possible.

Therefore, in May 1964, a planning order for a clinic in Bad Soden was placed. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 1, 1968, the inauguration took place on March 20, 1970, and the first patients were admitted on April 6, 1970. The construction cost 35 million DM (in today's purchasing power 67 million euros) instead of the originally planned 18 million DM. On a property of 34,000 m², buildings with a usable area of 14,700 m² and 5100 m² for the administration were built. The building comprised almost 59,000 cubic meters of built-in space, which offered 327 beds and the possibility of adding another 400 beds. When the Soden clinic opened on March 20, 1970, the clinic in Eppstein was closed. The urology department was opened on March 1, 1973. The hospital for specialized care unites all surgical departments of the clinics under one roof. Since August 2009 the two surgical clinics for orthopedics and trauma surgery as well as for plastic, hand and reconstructive surgery, which previously belonged to the Hofheim hospital, are also located in the Bad Soden hospital. The hospital also has a large general surgery department, a department for anesthesia, intensive care and pain therapy, an internal department specializing in cardiology and an internal department for gastroenterology and diabetes. There is also a urological clinic and a gynecological and obstetrical department.

Affiliated to the hospital are the cardiological practice Reifart und Partner, the oncological focus practice Seipelt, a kidney center of the board of trustees for dialysis and kidney transplantation, a pathological institute and a medical care center specializing in radiology, vascular surgery and proctology.

On March 19, 1904, the foundation stone was laid and construction began on the Marienheim, a church clinic in Hofheim. The Marienheim was opened on July 2, 1905. The hospital was run by the poor servants of Jesus Christ (Dernbacher Sisters).

On January 1, 1974, the district hospital company took over the previously church St. Marien Hospital in Hofheim. After this clinic was expanded, there were 670 beds in both facilities. The hospital with specialty care has

  • an internal medicine clinic with a focus on lung diseases (clinic for pulmonology and general internal medicine),
  • a geriatric clinic,
  • a clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy,
  • a stroke unit and
  • an interdisciplinary center for sleep medicine and home ventilation.

The Physiotherapy Department specifically treats the physiological functions in patients that are impaired due to illness. The social counseling supplements the medical and nursing care in the hospital by giving patients help with personal and social problems that result from the illness or disability. Attached to the house is a radiological practice and a medical care center that provides outpatient surgical and neurological treatment. The cooperation partner is the Board of Trustees for Home Dialysis, whose facilities are located in an adjoining building of the hospital.
