Klaus Schlesinger
Klaus Schlesinger (born January 9, 1937 in Berlin ; † May 11, 2001 there ) was a German writer and journalist .
Life
Klaus Schlesinger grew up in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg . His father, an expedition assistant at Ullstein Verlag , has been considered missing since the end of the Second World War and was later declared dead . Schlesinger trained as a chemical laboratory assistant from 1951 to 1957 and also began studying chemical engineering in West Berlin from 1956 to 1957 , which he had to abandon. He then worked as a food chemist and from 1958 to 1964 as a chemical laboratory assistant at the Institute for Virology at the East Berlin Charité .
From 1964 to 1965 Klaus Schlesinger took part in a course on literary reportage organized by the magazine Neue Berliner Illustrierte under the direction of the Swiss journalist and writer Jean Villain , who lived in the GDR . Other participants included Landolf Scherzer , Axel Kaspar , Anne Dessau and Gert Prokop . In 1965 he was released from the NBI . After a lawsuit for copyright infringement , his journalistic work was no longer published until 1968.
From 1968 to 1971 Schlesinger had a sponsorship contract with Hinstorff Verlag in Rostock for the completion of his novel Michael . In 1972 Schlesinger completed a correspondence course at the "Johannes R. Becher" literature institute in Leipzig and in 1973 became a member of the GDR Writers' Association .
The self-publishing of an anthology of young GDR authors under the working title Berlin Stories , which was planned by Ulrich Plenzdorf and Martin Stade, was prevented by the Ministry for State Security through targeted "operational measures". Since then, Schlesinger has been under observation by the State Security.
1974/1975 organized Schlesinger with Bettina Wegner , with whom he was married from 1970 to 1982, first series of events Eintopp with literature, music and talks to its ban and then the number of general store was closed, the "technical reasons" by the state .
After participating in several letters of protest (against the expatriation of Wolf Biermann in 1976, for those arrested in connection with the Biermann protests in 1977 and against the application of the foreign exchange law against Robert Havemann , Wolfgang Hilbig and Stefan Heym ), Schlesinger became on June 7, 1979 - together with Kurt Bartsch , Adolf Endler , Stefan Heym, Karl-Heinz Jakobs , Klaus Poche , Rolf Schneider , Dieter Schubert and Joachim Seyppel - excluded from the GDR writers' association.
He then moved to West Berlin in 1980 with a three-year travel visa. There he was active in the squatter scene ( Potsdamer Strasse ) from 1982 to 1992 . He lived in the KOB (Potsdamer Str. 157), where Frank Nordhausen lived at that time .
In 2000, Schlesinger became a member of the Akademie der Künste and received the Erich Fried Prize (laudator: György Dalos ). He died of leukemia on May 11, 2001 in Berlin. Klaus Schlesinger was buried next to Heinrich Greif in the French cemetery .
On May 11, 2013, a Berlin memorial plaque was unveiled in front of his former home in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, Dunckerstraße 4 . He left two sons, David Schlesinger from his marriage to Ruth Schlesinger and Jakob Schlesinger from his marriage to Bettina Wegner.
