Heinrich Greif

Otto Karl Heinrich Greif (born March 11, 1907 in Dresden , † July 16, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German actor. The Heinrich Greif Prize , a prize for film and television art in the GDR, was named after him .
Life
After graduating from high school, Greif began studying law in Berlin, but dropped out after a few semesters in favor of a career as an actor. After his training he worked as an actor in productions at the Berlin Volksbühne from 1927 , and from 1928 at the Piscator stage , followed by positions at other Berlin theaters. In 1930 he toured numerous German cities with the stage play § 218 by Carl Credé , directed by Erwin Piscator . In July 1931 Greif went to the Soviet Union for a few months , where he starred in the German version of Piscator's only feature film Der Aufstand der Fischer . The film was not completed in a Russian version until 1934. As a member of the Communist artist group " Troop 1931 " by Gustav von Wangenheim emigrated Reach for the seizure of power by the National Socialists of Paris and Zurich to Moscow. Greif, who had already become a KPD member in Paris , was chief spokesman for the German-language broadcasts on Radio Moscow from 1935 to 1945 . He also worked several times in Soviet films, including a. as SA storm leader in von Wangenheim's fighters .
In 1945 he returned to Germany and became a member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater Berlin . Heinrich Greif died a year later as a result of an inguinal hernia operation in the Berlin Charité . The routine operation was carried out personally by the then surgical director of the clinic, the 71-year-old Ferdinand Sauerbruch . In Sauerbruch, symptoms of his illness ( cerebral sclerosis ) were already showing at this point , and gross errors in the operation led to Griffin's death.
He rests in the French cemetery .
