Cerebral sclerosis
Cerebral sclerosis (from "cerebrum" - brain and sclerosis - pathological hardening of organs, also: cerebral arteriosclerosis) is the (outdated) collective term for severe circulatory disorders of the brain , which are mostly based on hardening of the arteries .
Before Alzheimer's disease was redefined (1977), brain sclerosis was the most common cause of dementia . Although the clinical picture of dementia and Parkinson's disease resembles that of severe vascular narrowing, these cannot be attributed to cerebral sclerosis.
