Georg Wacker (born January 9, 1962 in Ulm ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and managing director of the State Toto-Lotto GmbH Baden-Württemberg .

Professional background

After completing secondary school, Wacker studied piano with Hans Thürwächter and trombone with Paul Schreckenberger at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Heidelberg-Mannheim . He completed his studies in 1982 as a certified music teacher and in 1983 with the orchestra final exam. After completing his military service in the Air Force Music Corps II in Karlsruhe , from 1985 he worked as a music teacher at music schools in Schriesheim, Neckargemünd and Korntal-Münchingen . From 1992 he was given a teaching position at the Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education in Trossingen . From 1992 until his election to the state parliament, he was director of the city music school in Renningen .

Political career

In 1976 Wacker joined the Junge Union and in 1978 the CDU in the Rhein-Neckar district . He was involved in local politics as a member of the municipal council in Schriesheim. From 1987 to 1989 he was district chairman of the Junge Union Rhein-Neckar and then until 1993 deputy district chairman of the Junge Union Nordbaden. From 1996 to 2001 he was youth policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. In 2003 he was elected district chairman of the CDU Rhein-Neckar and held this position until 2011.

From 2006 to 2011 Wacker was political state secretary of the state government of Baden-Württemberg in the ministry for culture, youth and sport . At the same time, he was the state government's volunteer and training officer. He was in charge of early childhood and cultural education in the Ministry of Culture. For the first time he initiated an alliance for lifelong learning with all relevant partners of the state government from continuing education.

From 1996 to 2017 he was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament for the Weinheim constituency . He was elected five times, including four direct mandates.

From 2001 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2016 he was the education policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and was also a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee. Since 2007 he has been an elected member of the CDU Baden-Württemberg's state board . He was a member of the Federal Committee for Education, Research and Innovation of the CDU in Germany from 2008 to 2016. He accompanied the chairmanship of the conference of education policy spokespersons for the CDU states in Germany from 2015 to 2016. Immediately after the state elections in 2016 , he was the CDU's negotiator in Baden-Württemberg in the field of education policy in the coalition negotiations between the Greens and the CDU. From 2016 to 2017 he was the spokesman for SMEs and innovation in the CDU parliamentary group.

On December 31, 2017, Wacker resigned his state parliament mandate and has been managing director of Staatliche Toto und Lotto GmbH Baden-Württemberg since January 1, 2018. In addition, he is currently deputy district chairman of the CDU North Baden.
