The Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education in Trossingen ( Baden-Württemberg ) is the recognized federal central qualification and advisory partner of the music associations. The focus of her work is the advanced and advanced training of specialists and executives in extracurricular musical youth education. As a publicly recognized institution, it performs tasks in youth welfare and youth care. It opened in 1973.

Duties of the Federal Academy

The areas of responsibility are:

  • Further education center for music school directors and music school teachers, for conductors, choir directors, youth leaders and trainers in associations for amateur musicians, for music teachers in freelance work, for employees in socio-educational professions.
  • Meeting place for leading employees of the music associations and for experts in musical youth education
  • Workplace for support courses and selected ensembles of the federal and state governments
  • Advice center in questions of extracurricular musical education for young people and amateur musicians

The content-related work of the Federal Academy is determined by its sponsoring association. 35 associations of music education, instrumental and vocal amateur music, church music care and musical professional associations have come together in it.

Extra-occupational courses form the main focus of the Federal Academy. These courses extend over four to seven one-week academy phases and practical phases in between and conclude with an examination. In the academy phases, the participants acquire current musical-technical, music-pedagogical or organizational knowledge, which they use and test in the practical phases at their workplace or in their voluntary work. In the field of amateur music, they lead to the highest possible qualification as a conductor or choir director. They provide full-time music school teachers with additional teaching qualifications or the knowledge required to run a music school.

In-service training on current music-pedagogical topics offers an ideal combination of theory and practice as a multi-phase training concept without an examination. Through accompanying assignments, the learning content of the academy phases is tested, implemented and reflected in the following academy phase during the practical phase in the respective professional environment.

Seminars, workshops and symposia of various lengths convey current music-pedagogical and methodological-didactic aspects and serve to update knowledge already acquired.

International meetings and working conferences of member associations of the Federal Academy can be held in-house and, if requested, can be prepared and designed jointly by the educational staff and the library.

Library

The library of the Federal Academy is an advisory body for music schools and amateur music. It contains more than 73,000 volumes of music, books, magazines and sound carriers.

The curricula of the Association of German Music Schools and the literature lists for " Jugend musiziert " are created on the basis of the library holdings . For the national competition "Jugend musiziert", in which over 1,000 participants perform more than 2,000 works, the Federal Academy provides the jury with the sheet music every year.

One of the library's projects is the Bundesbigbandarchiv , a non-commercial online sheet music portal that connects composers who write for jazz orchestras and directors of youth jazz orchestras and their musicians. It draws attention to the compositional quality of a young generation of composers with independent and current forms of expression. It also offers qualified statements about the cast, style, degrees of difficulty and other details of the works.

Refurbishment and new construction

The Federal Academy was completely refurbished from 2010 to 2015 while the course was still running and a 370 m² rehearsal and concert hall was added. The aim of the renovation was to implement noise protection measures because of the residential areas that are now adjacent, to increase the energy efficiency of the building and to improve fire protection. Furthermore, acoustically differentiated room concepts were developed for the seminar rooms, larger rooms were created and a central sound studio with a connection to the concert hall and all rehearsal rooms was set up. The entire renovation cost 12.57 million euros and was partly funded by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs , the state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Trossingen .

advancement

The Federal Academy is funded with funds from the Federal Children and Youth Plan ( Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth ) and funds from the State Youth Plan Baden-Württemberg ( Ministry for Science, Research and Art Baden-Württemberg ).
