Mat Hoffman (actually: Mathew Hoffman) (born January 9, 1972 in Edmond , Oklahoma ) is a successful American BMX rider.
Hoffman achieved fame through his maneuvers in the halfpipe and was also very successful in other disciplines such as street or park . Mat tried out new tricks at a young age (including Flair , 900 and a number of 540 variations) and was able to celebrate his first successes in competitions as a teenager.
In 1991, Mat broke the world record in the " Highest Air Vertical Ramp " on a 6.4 meter (21 foot) quarter pipe . In 2001 he broke his world record again, this time on a 1 meter larger ramp. Mat pulled himself up to about 90 km / h with a motorcycle and catapulted himself 8 m (26.5 feet) out. His comment: "I was just over 50 feet off the ground." ("I was just over 50 feet (= 15.2395 m) above the ground.")
In his autobiography "The Ride of My Life" he describes not only his rise to one of the best BMX riders but also many of his tricks. Similar to the skateboarder Tony Hawk , the computer game Mat Hoffmann's Pro BMX bears his name. He broke almost every bone. In order to be able to drive at all, he had artificial ligaments implanted in his legs. After a particularly bad fall, he was in a coma for a week. Because of his acrobatics he is nicknamed "The Condor".
Occasionally, he was in the MTV -Shows Jackass , Nitro Circus and Nick children's series Zoey 101 and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide to see and had a bit part in the film xXx - Triple X .
He has one daughter and lives with his family in Oklahoma City .
