Olga Waldschmidt

Olga ("Olly") Waldschmidt , née Schwarz (born February 5, 1898 , † January 9, 1972 in Stuttgart ) was a German sculptor, graphic artist, painter and mosaicist . Her specialty were bronze figures and head busts.

Life

Her father was an art collector who introduced his daughter to art at an early age. Waldschmidt studied painting and sculpture at the State Academy in Stuttgart and in 1921 married her teacher, the graphic artist and sculptor Arnold Waldschmidt (* 1873 ; † 1958 ). Their daughter Ute (born September 11, 1922 ; † 1984 ) in Stuttgart, married Albrecht von Urach (born October 8, 1903 ; † December 11, 1969 ). Olly Waldschmidt created mosaics, murals and ran a painting school. In 1923 she joined the Stuttgart Secession and exhibited her works at their exhibitions between 1923 and 1932. In 1929 she founded the group of artists together with Anton Kolig, Albert Mueller, Hermann Sohn, Walter Ostermayer, Hans and Marianne Spiegel, Lily Hildebrandt, Arnold Waldschmidt and Karl Knappe .

Some of her works are now in the possession of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart .

  • A large mosaic image of a city view of New York (title "Skyscraper") for the express steamer Bremen
  • On the corner of Glinkastrasse on the facade of the former "House of German-Soviet Friendship" there is a relief of the head of the Russian composer Michail Glinka .
  • Bronze head "Young Pioneer" from 1951.
