Tamped density

Tamped density (synonym: vibrated density ) describes the density of a pile  ( solid ) that has already been compacted by tamping or shaking compared to its bulk density .

The measuring method is described in the standard DIN EN ISO 787-11: 200 ml of the solid sample to be examined are placed in a measuring cylinder and weighed in, the volume taken up is the bulk volume . The powder column in the measuring cylinder is now tamped on frequently under specified conditions (about 1250 revolutions of the camshaft in the tamping volumeter), the bulk volume being reduced to the tamping volume. The tapped density (in g / ml) is obtained by dividing the weighed mass by the tapped volume:

A device for reproducible tamping is the tamping volumeter, in which a graduated measuring cylinder filled with the test sample is exposed to an electrically driven tamping mechanism.

The dimensionless Hausner factor is a measure of the increase in bulk density to tamped density or for the decrease in bulk volume to tamped volume.
