January Sobiepan Zamoyski (* 9. January 1627 in Zamosc , † 2. April 1665 ) was a Polish nobleman , magnate , General and officials in the civil service of the Republic of Poland-Lithuania ( Republic of the Polish Crown [Kingdom of Poland] and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania ) . As the son of Tomasz Zamoyski and Katarzyna Zamoyska, nee Princess Ostrogska , he came from the Zamoyski family .

Life

Jan Sobiepan Zamoyski was Voivode of Kiev ( Kiev Voivodeship ) from 1658 and of Sandomir ( Sandomierz Voivodeship ) from 1653 and Krajczy (Latin incisor Regni ) from 1653 and from 1655 cupbearer of the Polish crown , as well as Starost of Kałuszyn and Rostoki. As General of Podolia , he was mainly active in the military field. The writer Henryk Sienkiewicz portrays him as a hero at the time of the "Swedish Flood".

Marriage and offspring

In 1658 Jan married the French nobleman and lady-in-waiting of the Queen, Maria Kazimiera d´Arquien , who later went to King Jan III. Sobieski was married. With her he had three daughters, all of whom died in childhood.
