Johann Philipp Du Roi (born June 2, 1741 in Braunschweig ; † December 8, 1785 ibid) was a German doctor and botanist specializing in dendrology . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Du Roi ".

Live and act

Du Roi studied medicinal science in Helmstedt , became a doctor of medicine there in 1764 and supervisor for the planting of foreign trees and shrubs in the Harbke palace gardens in 1765 . His work Die Harbke'sche wilde Baumzucht ... is considered the first scientific treatise on dendrology in Germany. In 1776 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 1777 he settled in Braunschweig as a general practitioner, became a garrison physician , city ​​physician , court medical officer and assessor at the senior medical college. Around 1780, Du Roi was appointed secretary of the Braunschweig Freemasons' lodge " Carl to the Crowned Column ". He died in 1785 a busy doctor.
