Johann Bücher (born October 16, 1721 in Danzig ; † July 20, 1785 in Jessen ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Born as the son of the pastor at the Danzig Katharinenkirche Johann Bernhard Bücher and his wife Johanna Helene, the daughter of the pastor in Schlieben Johann Georg Meissner, he came from an old line of pastors. His grandfather Friedrich Christian Bücher was already a deacon in Danzig and his great-grandfather Conrad David Büchner was provost in Schieben. Equipped with good development potential, he moved to the grammar school in Danzig, studied at the University of Jena from 1743 and switched to the University of Wittenberg on April 28, 1747 .

Here, on October 17, 1749, Bücher acquired the highest academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. On September 1, 1750, after he had obtained his master's license to hold lectures at the theological faculty, he was accepted as an adjunct at the faculty of philosophy on September 14, 1750 . After Johann Gottlob Wernher had left his professorship in antiquities, the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland Friedrich August gave him an extraordinary professorship in philosophy in November 1753 .

However, he did not stay in this position for long. First he took over the position of dean at the philosophical faculty in 1754 and after he was offered the position of superintendent in Jessen (Elster) in 1754 , he was ordained in 1755 for the position of the local pastor in Wittenberg. In 1770 he acquired on June 14 in Wittenberg, the licentiate in theology and was on August 9, the doctor doctorate of theology.
