The Energieversorgung Offenbach AG (short: EVO ) is a power company for electricity , natural gas and heat . The supply area extends to the city of Offenbach am Main and parts of the Offenbach district and Hesse.
history
Energieversorgung Offenbach was founded in Offenbach in 1847 under the name Gasgesellschaft . The originally private company became the property of the city of Offenbach in 1879 for 700,000 marks and was from then on called the Offenbach Municipal Gas Works .
Over time, the municipal company supplied consumers not only with gas but also with water and electricity, which is why the Offenbach public utility was founded in 1939 .
In 1980 the Stadtwerke was privatized , from which the Energieversorgung Offenbach AG emerged . Mannheim-based MVV Energie AG has been the main shareholder (48.419%) and parent company since 2000 . The second shareholder of EVO AG is Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding GmbH (SOH) with 48.416% of the shares. Another 3.165% of the shares are held by the workforce and do not have voting rights.

Power plants
EVO's power plants generate district heating and electricity. A thermal power station is located on the company premises. EVO operates a waste-to-energy plant between Offenbach and Dietzenbach , in which up to 252,000 tons of waste are burned annually. Using the so-called combined heat and power generation , electricity and district heating are generated in the waste incineration plant. In the 2016/2017 financial year, the waste-to-energy plant received a new flue gas cleaning system and a highly efficient steam turbine, with which the amount of electricity sold to the grid was increased from 40,000 to 90,000 MWh. The amount of district heating generated per year is approx. 182,000 megawatt hours.
Regenerative energy generation
In the municipality of Kirchberg im Hunsrück , EVO and the juwi group have been operating one of the most powerful wind farms in southwest Germany since 2012 . The plant has 23 modern wind turbines with an output of almost 53 megawatts . This corresponds to the annual consumption of around 35,000 three-person households. On the Hungerberg in the Kirchheimbolanden community in Rhineland-Palatinate, EVO and the juwi group have been operating their fourth wind farm since spring 2014. This means that EVO has a total of 39 modern wind turbines with a total output of around 95 megawatts. With the commissioning of the fourth wind farm, the share of green electricity in EVO's own generation has now grown to 50 percent.
In May 2011, EVO put one of the largest pellet plants in the Rhine-Main area into operation. The plant processes residual wood and green waste into around 90,000 tons of wood pellets per year. The plant is located on the former Allessa site in Offenbach. Our biomass cogeneration plant in Offenbach, which is operated exclusively with natural wood (wood waste from sawmills and municipal green cuttings), plays a central role when it comes to renewable energies. It generates a heat output of 4 MW. Among other things, it supplies our pellet plant with CO 2 -neutral thermal energy. Our approx. 90,000 t of wood pellets per year are produced in an almost climate-neutral manner.
Water supply
The ZWO (Zweckverband Wasserversorgung Stadt und Kreis Offenbach) is responsible for the water supply in Offenbach. The municipal services of the city of Offenbach (ESO for short) is responsible for the drainage of the water in the sewer network .
