Presley Spruance (born September 11, 1785 in Kent County , Delaware , †  February 13, 1863 in Smyrna , Delaware) was an American politician ( Whig Party ) who represented the state of Delaware in the US Senate .

Presley Spruance was a businessman and owner of a manufacturing company in Smyrna. He took his first political mandate in 1823 as a member of the House of Representatives from Delaware ; later he belonged to this parliamentary chamber again between 1839 and 1840. From 1826 and 1831 he was a member of the State Senate . Further terms of office followed there from 1835 to 1836, from 1837 to 1838, from 1841 to 1842, from 1843 to 1844 and finally in 1847, where he acted several times as speaker . In 1831 he was also a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of Delaware.

On March 4, 1847, Spruance moved to the US Senate in Washington as the successor to Thomas Clayton , where he represented the interests of the Whigs until March 3, 1853. After a legislative period, he did not stand for election again, resigned from Congress and devoted himself to his business affairs.
