The Nemogullmia are a genus of soft-wired, sea-dwelling protists from the group of foraminifera .
features
The shells are free or the animals colonize empty shells of other foraminifera or worm tubes. They are oblong, straight or curled up and 1.6 to 19 millimeters long. The smooth casing wall is translucent and white to pale red, occasionally with isolated particles taken up from the sediment, occasionally with periodic constrictions. Small apertures are sometimes formed at the ends of the housing .
The cytoplasm is translucent and contains fine oil droplets and one or more cell nuclei . Sexual reproduction takes place by means of biflagellate gametes , which develop within the housing of a gamont with a cell nucleus. During this development time, all apertures remain closed. The schizont has a nucleus and multiplies through cell division.
Systematics
The genus was first described in 1953 by KG Nyholm using specimens from the Swedish Gullmarsfjord . Types are:
