Richard R. Kenney

Richard Rolland Kenney (born September 9, 1856 in Laurel , Delaware , †  August 14, 1931 in Dover , Delaware) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . He represented the state of Delaware in the US Senate .

After attending public schools and the Laurel Academy Richard Kenney graduated from the in 1878 Hobart College in Geneva ( New York ). He then studied law , was inducted into the bar in 1881 and began practicing in Dover. From 1879 to 1881 he held the post of Head of the State Library ( State Librarian ). Between 1880 and 1889 he served as a captain in the Delaware National Guard ; from 1887 to 1891 he was the rank of Adjutant General Head of the State Armed Forces.

In 1896, Kenney was a member of the Democratic National Committee as a representative of Delaware ; on January 19 of the following year he was elected to the US Senate, where he succeeded Anthony C. Higgins . This seat had remained vacant since March 3, 1895. Kenney's term ended March 4, 1901; previously the Democrats in the Delaware parliament had failed to organize a majority for his re-election. Another vacancy followed, which lasted until March 2, 1903.

Kenney then no longer held any political office. He returned to Dover as a lawyer and was a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the US Armed Forces during World War I. In 1921 he became legal advisor to the Delaware House of Representatives ; it followed a tenure as prosecutor in Kent County . Until his death in 1931 he held several offices at the state level.
