Alexander Buckner
Alexander Buckner (born 1785 in Jefferson County , Kentucky , † June 6, 1833 in Cape Girardeau County , Missouri ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of Missouri in the US Senate .
After he in his native Kentucky law had studied Alexander Buckner moved in 1812 initially to Charleston in Indiana , before he in 1818 near Jackson in Missouri Territory settled. There he practiced as a lawyer and was also active in agriculture. He was later appointed District Attorney for Cape Girardeau District by the Territorial Governor. He also served as President of the Constitutional Convention for the future state of Missouri in 1820.
Buckner had his first political mandate between 1822 and 1826 as a member of the Missouri Senate . On March 4, 1831, he moved to the Senate in Washington after his election victory against incumbent David Barton of the National Republican Party ; However, he died during his tenure on June 6, 1833 of complications from cholera and was buried on his farm in Cape Girardeau County. In 1897 she was transferred to the municipal cemetery at Cape Girardeau.
Buckner was a Freemason and co-founder of the Indiana Grand Lodge and its first Grand Master .
