Kit Bond

Kit Bond (born March 6, 1939 in St. Louis , Missouri ; actually Christopher Samuel Bond ) is an American politician and was a member of the US Senate for the state of Missouri. Bond also served twice as governor . He was the 47th and 49th governors of that state.

Early years

Kit Bond attended Princeton University and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs . He then studied law at the University of Virginia . There he also took his law exam in 1963. He then worked as a lawyer.

Political career

In 1969, Bond became the Assistant Attorney General of Missouri. In this capacity he was responsible for consumer protection. Between 1971 and 1973 he was a state auditor . In 1972 he was elected as the candidate of the Republican Party for the new governor of his country. Bond took office on January 8, 1973. He supported the civil rights laws, which earned him criticism from some conservative circles. In 1976 he officially canceled an anti- Mormon deportation order from 1838. In the same year, Bond ran for re-election, but was defeated by his Democratic challenger Joseph P. Teasdale . In the years that followed, he became president of a non-profit legal foundation ( Great Plains Legal Foundation ). In November 1980 he was elected governor a second time. His second term began on January 12, 1981 and ended on January 14, 1985. It was uneventful. He was succeeded by the future US Attorney General John Ashcroft .

Kit Bond represented his state in the US Senate from 1987 to 2011. He succeeded the no longer running Thomas Eagleton , where he prevailed against Missouris Lieutenant Governor Harriett Woods . He was re-elected three times, most recently in 2004 with 56 percent of the vote against Nancy Farmer (42.8 percent). He was a member of several committees; He also chaired the United States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship twice . In the 2010 election, Bond did not run again. He was succeeded by Roy Blunt .

From the 1995 divorced marriage with Carolyn Reid comes the son Sam, who served as a member of the United States Marine Corps in Iraq . Kit Bond married Linda Pell in 2002.
