Joseph P. Teasdale

Joseph Patrick Teasdale (born March 29, 1936 in Kansas City , Missouri , † May 8, 2014 ibid) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He was the 48th governor of Missouri from 1977 to 1981  .

Early years and advancement

Teasdale attended Rockhurst College and then studied law at St. Louis University . In 1960 he passed his law exam. Between 1962 and 1966 he served as a federal attorney for western Missouri. Between 1966 and 1972 he was a district attorney in Jackson County . On November 2, 1976, he was elected as the new governor of his state as the Democratic candidate against incumbent Kit Bond .

Missouri governor

Teasdale began his four-year term on January 10, 1977. He was a member of several governors' associations. His term of office was largely unspectacular. In 1980 he ran again for election. This time he was defeated by Bond, who also became his successor.

After the end of his governorship, Teasdale became a lawyer. He lived in Kansas City and was married to Theresa Ferkenhoff. Teasdale died on May 8, 2014 at the age of 78 in the city of Kansas City, his birthplace.
