Bob Holden

Robert Lee "Bob" Holden Jr. (born August 24, 1949 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . His most important public office to date has been that of governor of Missouri.

Early years and political advancement

Holden grew up on a farm. By 1973 he studied political science at Southwest Missouri State University . He then continued his studies at Harvard University and the Fleming Fellow Leadership Institute .

Holden's political career began in 1976 as Deputy Treasurer of Missouri. From 1983 to 1989 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives . From 1993 to 2001 he served as State Treasurer of the state. He was elected governor in 2001, an election he narrowly won against Republican Jim Talent .

Missouri governor

Bob Holden took up his new position on January 8, 2001. During his tenure he improved the school policy of his state. He campaigned for family-friendly policies and strengthened the health system. Among other things, preventive medical check-ups were introduced. In road traffic, the alcohol limit was set at 0.08 per thousand. Holden was a member of numerous associations.

He did not succeed in re-election, and in 2004 he lost the primary elections in his party to Claire McCaskill . The post of governor then went to Republican Matt Blunt . Holden now works as a professor for management at the renowned Webster University . He has two children with his wife Lori Hauser.
