George Howard Williams
George Howard Williams (born December 1, 1871 in California , Moniteau County , Missouri , † November 25, 1963 in Sarasota , Florida ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Missouri in the US Senate .
George Williams attended public schools and Drury College in Springfield to prepare for college . He graduated in 1894 in Princeton and in 1897 at the Law School of Washington University , after which he was admitted to the Bar Association and St. Louis began practicing.
From 1906 to 1912, Williams was a judge in the St. Louis District Court. In 1922 and 1923 he served as a delegate to the Missouri Constitutional Convention. After the death of US Senator Selden P. Spencer , Williams was appointed as his successor in Congress . He took his place on May 25, 1925 and had to leave the Senate on December 5, 1926, after trying in vain for the seat in a by-election. While in Washington , he chaired the Committee to Audit and Control the Contingent Expenses .
After the end of his political career, George Williams worked again as a lawyer in St. Louis until he retired in 1943. He moved to Sarasota, Florida, where he died in 1963.
