Thomas Christiansen Tarín (born March 11, 1973 in Hadsund , Denmark ) is a Danish - Spanish football coach and former player .
Career
Player career
Christiansen played for Avedøre , Brøndby , Hvidovre , B 93 Copenhagen , FC Barcelona (1991/92), Sporting Gijón (1992/93), CA Osasuna (1993/94), Racing Santander (1994/95), Real Oviedo (1995 / 96), Villarreal CF (1997/98), Terassa (1999/2000) and Panionios Athens . For the 2000/01 season he moved to Herfølge . After six months he moved to VfL Bochum , with whom he was relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2000/01 season. After the recovery he was 2003 top scorer , together with Giovane Élber .
For the 2003/04 season he moved to Hannover 96 . After he was operated for the second time because of a stress fracture in his right shin, Christiansen ended his career after the 2005/06 season.
In his career, the striker made 101 Bundesliga appearances and scored 34 goals. In the second Bundesliga he scored 17 goals in 30 games.
In the national team
Christiansen played in two international matches for Spain in 1993 and scored one goal.
Coaching career
On June 15, 2017, the English second division Leeds United announced the signing of Thomas Christiansen. His contract was terminated on February 4, 2018 after the team failed to win their last seven games.
The next year he was without an employer. On July 1, 2019, he signed a contract with the Belgian second division Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for a period of two years. The club would have had the option to extend the contract for another year. After Royale Union took 4th place in the overall table in the first season and had not been able to achieve promotion due to a lack of victory in one of the two tranches, the club decided to end the cooperation.
In July 2020 he became the national coach of Panama . His contract runs until he qualifies for the 2022 World Cup .

Trivia
In addition to Danish, he also has Spanish citizenship. His mother is Spanish, which is the reason for his second surname, Tarín. He had to take it over from his mother when he applied for a Spanish passport. Christiansen is married to a Spaniard; they have two children together.
