Franz Misteli

Franz Misteli (born March 11, 1841 in Solothurn ; † October 6, 1903 in Brunnen SZ ) was a Swiss classical philologist and linguist .

He studied Classical Philology at the University of Zurich and then worked as a Greek and Latin teacher at the canton schools in St. Gallen and Solothurn . From 1874 he was an associate professor in the newly created professorship for comparative linguistics at the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Basel , and from 1877 he was a full professor. After a severe stroke in 1896, he gave up his professorship in 1898. He wrote works based on language philosophy and language psychology.
