Konstantin Konstantinowitsch Kokkinaki ( Russian Константин Константинович Коккинаки ; born March 11, 1910 in Novorossiysk ; † March 4, 1990 in Moscow ) was a Soviet test pilot .

Life

Kokkinaki was used as a fighter pilot in the Sino-Japanese War 1939-40 and scored 7 kills in 166 missions. In the Second World War he scored a total of 7 kills.

From 1951 to 1967 he was a test pilot for the OKB MiG and carried out tests with the types Mikojan-Gurewitsch MiG-17 , Mikojan-Gurewitsch MiG-19 and Mikojan-Gurewitsch MiG-21 . He became internationally known when, on September 30, 1960, he set the world speed record with the Je-66, a record version of the MiG-21, over a closed distance of 100 km at 2148.66 km / h in the Soviet Union .

Konstantin Kokkinaki was honored as Hero of the Soviet Union for his services . He was awarded the Order of Lenin three times .

He is the brother of Vladimir Konstantinovich Kokkinaki .
