August Christian Friedrich von Legat (born March 11, 1781 in Magdeburg , † December 17, 1852 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

His parents were Major General Karl Friedrich Erhard von Legat (1735-1811) and his wife Johanna Bernhardine Maria, née von Fuchs (1748-1805).

Military career

Legat came on October 4, 1793 cadet to Berlin and subsequently on 16 September 1797, the ensign in the Infantry Regiment "Langen" . There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant on January 27, 1801 . During the Fourth Coalition War , Legat was wounded in a battle near Christburg. After the war he was transferred to the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment on January 1, 1808 with a patent dated December 18, 1799 , and then on October 28, 1811 he was made Prime Minister . In the campaign of 1812 he fought in the skirmishes near Eckau and Graefenthal. For this Legat received the order Pour le Mérite on October 18, 1812 . On June 27, 1813, he became staff captain . During the Wars of Liberation , Legat fought at Großgörschen , Dresden , Kulm , Leipzig , Laon and Paris, as well as in the battles of Danigkow, Bernburg, Nollendorf, La Fere Champenoise and the sieges of Erfurt , Mezieres and Sedan. For Kulm he received the Iron Cross II. Class and for Paris the Russian Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class. On September 17, 1813, he became a captain in the General Staff, and on February 16, 1815, a major .

On January 5, 1816 Legat was transferred to the adjunct and from there on March 30, 1817 to the 20th Infantry Regiment . There he became lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1824 with a patent from April 15, 1824. On July 21, 1825, he became a member of the General War Department and on March 30, 1829 he was promoted to colonel . In addition, Legat received the ribbon to the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 18, 1833 . Class. On March 30, 1834, he was appointed director of the Potsdam military orphanage. Two years later, he was awarded the character as major general. On May 15, 1838, Legat received two months' full salary leave to take cures in Franzensbad . He must have recovered, because on January 18, 1840 he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, and later on March 30, 1844, the character of Lieutenant General. Furthermore, on May 11, 1844, he received a personal allowance of 400 thalers from the fund of the orphanage, and on May 25, 1844, he was given seven weeks' leave with a full salary again to Franzensbad. On March 12, 1846, he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, and on September 20, 1857, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class with oak leaves. He died in Potsdam on December 17, 1852.

Legat married Josephine Adeline le Vaillant de Hautecourt on April 6, 1816 in Hamburg (* September 13, 1794; † October 13, 1856). The couple had the following children:
