Karl Friedrich Erhard von Legat (born June 2, 1735 in Zerrehne , Köslin district , † February 7, 1811 in Ziesar ) was a Prussian lieutenant general in the engineering corps .

Life

His parents were the captain Erhard Leberecht von Legat (* July 21, 1690 - January 20, 1773) and his wife Justine Juliane, born von Münchow (* September 30, 1695 - March 22, 1742).

Military career

Legat came on February 6, 1756 as a surplus conductor in the engineer corps in Silesia. On July 1, 1756, he was assigned as a conductor there. During the Seven Years' War he took part in the sieges of Olomouc and Schweidnitz . In the latter, he was wounded in the head. He also fought in the battles near Prague , Hochkirch , Zorndorf and Torgau . During that time he was promoted to second lieutenant on April 12, 1758 , and on April 25, 1759, he was transferred to garrison regiment No. 10 with a patent on April 12, 1758 as prime lieutenant . On July 12, 1761, he was transferred back to the engineering corps in Magdeburg .

After the war, Legat received royal permission on November 26, 1767 to join the infantry regiment "von Nassau-Usingen" as an engineer lieutenant, "to be trained as a genius". For this purpose he was transferred to Burg near Magdeburg on April 1, 1768 . On March 7, 1774 he was transferred to Marienwerder to support Lieutenant Colonel Madeleine Touros Count d'Heinze with the construction of the fortress there. On August 1, 1774 he was promoted to captain and on September 19, 1774 again transferred to the engineering corps in Magdeburg. On June 15, 1787 he became Legate Major with a patent from June 16, 1787. On January 18, 1795 he became a lieutenant colonel and on May 30, 1898 a colonel . He received his resignation on February 18, 1805 with a pension of 1000 thalers and the character of lieutenant general. After the lost Fourth Coalition War , he offered his help again, but King Friedrich Wilhelm III. declines with reference to his age. He died on February 7, 1811 in Ziesar.

Legat married on February 14, 1776 in Freienwalde Johanna Bernhardine Maria von Fuchs (* February 8, 1748 - January 29, 1805), a daughter of the war council Konrad Ludwig von Fuchs (1707–1772). The couple had several children:
