Ernst Moritz Bernhard von Legat (born September 12, 1829 in Berlin ; † September 13, 1907 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Ernst was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant General August von Legat (1781-1852) and his wife Josephine Adeline, née le Vaillant de Hautecourt (1794-1856).

Military career

Legat visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . End of February 1847, first released at the request of his father, he joined on 1 July 1847 ensign in the Guards Reserve Infantry (Landwehr) Regiment of the Prussian army and was promoted to July 1848 second lieutenant . As such, Legate was adjutant of the 1st Battalion from October 1, 1850 to February 28, 1854 . In autumn he was sent to the General War School for three years for further training . He then acted as a teacher at the division school in Potsdam, became prime lieutenant in mid-January 1859 and was a company commander at III for the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War . Battalion of the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment in Graudenz commanded. After two years of command as adjutant of the 4th Guard Infantry Brigade , Legat was transferred to the 8th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 57 in Wesel and promoted to captain . Here he was the chief of the 2nd Company and led his troops in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battles of Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . Awarded the Order of the Red Eagle IV class with swords for his behavior , Legat was appointed commander of the NCO School in Jülich after the peace treaty as a major under position à la suite of the 1st Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 31 . From March 16, 1869, he was employed as commander of the 2nd battalion in the Mecklenburg Fusilier Regiment No. 90 in Wismar . Promoted to lieutenant colonel in this position immediately after the start of the war against France , Legat led his battalion in the sieges of Metz and Toul in 1870/71 , as well as the battles at Beaugency , Villorceau , Villejouan, Connerré and Le Mans . Legat had led the regiment for three months for the injured Commander von Gliszczynski and had been awarded both classes of the Iron Cross .

After the end of the war , Legat was commissioned in mid-February 1872 with the command of the 2nd Baden Grenadier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm" No. 110 and on April 13, 1872 he was appointed commander of the association . As a colonel , he was then commissioned on April 13, 1878 to lead the 10th Infantry Brigade in Frankfurt (Oder) . As major general , Legat was the commander of this large unit from April 18, 1878 to March 19, 1883 . He was then transferred to Strasbourg and charged with the command of the 30th Division . On May 15, 1883, he was promoted to Lieutenant General to Division Commander. In the spring of 1885, Legat fell ill with an abdominal ailment and had to take a longer vacation until the end of the autumn maneuvers. Though it be the Commanding General of Heuduck for the acquisition of a corps recommended Legat increased due to his state of health his farewell , and was awarded the on 15 April 1886 the Crown , First Class with the statutory board for disposition made.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the battle at Connerré, Legat received the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class with Oak Leaves and Swords and the Grand Cross of the Order of the Griffin in January 1896 .

After his death on September 17, 1907, he was buried in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Legat married Alide Sophie Luise Süsserott (1844–1919) on October 27, 1871 in Wismar.
