Coalition of Parties for Democracy
The coalition of parties for democracy ( Spanish Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia ) was a coalition of center-left - parties in Chile from 1988 to 2013. It is from the opposition alliance Concertación de Partidos por el No emerged that the plebiscite of 1989 advocated free elections (and against an extension of the dictatorship, therefore "No"). Since the end of the military dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet , between 1990 and 2010, with Patricio Aylwin , Eduardo Frei , Ricardo Lagos and Michelle Bachelet until the presidency of Sebastián Piñera, all Chilean presidents came from the Concertación camp. Together with other parties, the Concertación formed the Nueva Mayoría alliance in 2013 .
Member parties
The following parties formed the Concertación:
- Partido Demócrata Cristiano , PDC (Christian Democratic Party of Chile)
- Partido por la Democracia , PPD (Party for Democracy)
- Partido Socialista de Chile , PS (Socialist Party of Chile)
- Partido Radical Social Demócrata , PRSD (Radical Social Democratic Party)
The moderate left parties PS and PPD are about as strong as the Christian Democratic PDC. Therefore, the much smaller PRSD often played a decisive role. The seat of the party alliance was also located at the headquarters of the PRSD in the Barrio París-Londres in the city center of Santiago de Chile.

Unlike in Germany, there are large differences between the sexes in Chile when it comes to voting behavior. In all major national elections since 1989, women have tended to vote on the right and men on the left. In the 2005 presidential election, left-wing candidate Bachelet was able to reverse this tendency.
