Franz Count of Meran

Franz Ludwig Johann Baptist Count of Meran, Baron von Brandhofen (born March 11, 1839 in Vienna , † March 27, 1891 in Opatija ) was an Austrian nobleman and ancestor of the Counts of Meran, who came from the Habsburgs .

Life

Franz was the only son of Archduke Johann from his morganatic marriage to Anna Plochl , who after the marriage was first made Baroness of Brandhofen (1834), then in 1850 Countess of Meran. Franz received this rise in rank on December 30, 1845. In 1861 he was appointed a lifelong member of the manor house . In 1862 he took over the management of the businesses and facilities left by his father. Franz was the first president of the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund and thus made an important step towards promoting Styrian art. Franz von Meran was buried in the mausoleum of Archduke Johann in Schenna, which he built for his father .
