Henry Edmund Olufemi Adefope (born March 15, 1926 in Kaduna , † March 11, 2012 in Lagos ) was a Nigerian politician and IOC member.

Life

As a graduate of Glasgow University (1947-1952) Adefope began his career in the Nigerian Army , where he worked as a doctor from 1953 to 1963 with the rank of brigadier general . He was Nigeria's Minister of Labor from 1975 to 1978 and Foreign Minister from 1978 to 1979. He himself played soccer, tennis and cricket .

Adefope was a member of the IOC from 1985 to 2006, then an honorary member . He was particularly active in promoting African and youth sports in his native Nigeria, where he was a member of the National Olympic Committee from 1967 to 1976 . In 1973 he headed the Organizing Committee of the All-Africa Games in Lagos and he was Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Federation from 1974 to 1982.
