Joy Ogwu

Joy Ogwu (born August 22, 1946 ) is a Nigerian author , minister and diplomat . She served as Foreign Minister in Olusegun Obasanjo's cabinet from 2006 to 2007, and represented her country at the United Nations from 2008 to 2017 .

Career

Joy Ogwu studied political science at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA and received her PhD from the University of Lagos in 1977 .

Ogwu began teaching at the National War College , the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA). In 2006 she resigned from the NIIA as Director General and served as Foreign Minister from August 30, 2006 to May 29, 2007, succeeding Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala . From May 2008 to May 2017 she represented Nigeria as permanent representative at the United Nations. During this time Ogwu had an expert on security issues and was in July 2010 and in October 2011 President of the Security Council .

As an author, Ogwu wrote several political studies between 1986 and 2015.

Ogwu belongs to the Igbo people and comes from the state of Delta .
