Ike Nwachukwu

Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu (born September 1, 1940 in Port Harcourt ) is a former Nigerian major general and politician who was Nigeria's foreign minister between 1987 and 1989 and again from 1990 to 1993.

Life

Nwachukwu completed an officer training in the army of the armed forces and was first commander of the Army Infantry School in 1979 and then between 1979 and 1984 as Provost Marshal chief of the military police. In 1984 he succeeded Sam Mbakwe as governor of the state of Imo and remained in this use until 1985, after which he was replaced by Allison Madueke . He was then Adjunct General from 1985 to 1986 .

During the tenure of President Ibrahim Babangida , Nwachukwu first served as Minister for Employment, Labor and Productivity between 1986 and 1987 and then took over the post of Foreign Minister from Bolaji Akinyemi for the first time in December 1987 and held this position until he was replaced by Rilwanu Lukman in December 1989 . During his tenure in 1988 he attended the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Nations in Lusaka . He then took over January-September 1990 Commander ( General Officer Commanding ) of the 1st Division. In September 1990 he took over the post of foreign minister again from Lukman and held this until January 1993, after which Matthew Mbu was his successor.

In May 1999, Nwachukwu became a member of the Senate and represented the interests of North Imo until it was replaced in May 2003. He was temporarily also a member of the board of directors of Usman-dan-Fodio University in Sokoto . Nwachukwu is married and has four children.
