Leena Katriina Lehtolainen (born March 11, 1964 in Vesanto , Finland ) is a Finnish writer .

life and work

In 1976, at the age of 12, Lehtolainen published her first book, the youth novel Ja äkkiä onkin toukokuu (literally: "And suddenly it's May"). In 1981 she published her novel Kitara on rakkauteni (literally: "The guitar is my love"), which tells of a youth band.

With the book Ensimmäinen murhani (literally: "My first murder", German title: Everyone sings in chorus ), the first volume in the series about investigator Maria Kallio, Leena Lehtolainen began her career as a crime novelist in 1993. Since then, another 14 volumes in this series have been published, in which Commissioner Kallio's private and family life repeatedly plays a major role; the series is not yet over.

2009 appeared with her novel Henkivartija the first volume of the series to the Personenschützerin Hilja Ilveskero, 2012 in the German translation under the title The bodyguard was published.

With her family novel Du thought you had forgotten , published in German in 2007 , Lehtolainen turned to a new genre for the first time in Germany. In Finland, on the other hand, she is very successful with other books that deal with dealing with one's own fate and the search for personal identity.

Leena Lehtolainen studied literature at the University of Helsinki and in 1995 wrote her licentiate thesis on genre-specific features in the three detective novels by Finnish author Eeva Tenhunen . In addition to her work as a writer, she also works as a literary scholar, critic and columnist.

Leena Lehtolainen is married with two children (* 1991 and 1994) and lives in Degerby, municipality of Ingå , west of Helsinki. In her free time, the passionate music lover relaxes with punk rock music as well as making her own music with guitar, piano and vocals.
