The municipality includes the places Ahveninen, Harinkaa, Horonkylä, Kuuslahti, Niinivesi, Närhilä, Oinaskylä, Tiitilänkylä, Sonkari, Länsi-Vesanto, Vesamäki and Vesijärvi.

Municipal council

As in most rural areas of Finland, the peasant-liberal Center Party is the strongest party in Vesanto . In the 2012 local elections, she achieved a two-thirds majority in the council with around 65% of the vote and 15 out of 21 MPs. The right-wing populist True Finns and the Social Democrats each have three seats. The conservative National Collection Party lost three quarters of its votes and with it its three seats on the local council.
