The Christian Democrats ( Finnish Kristillisdemokraatit , KD ; Swedish Kristdemokraterna ) are a Christian Democrat - conservative political party in Finland . The party was founded in 1958 under the name “Christian Federation of Finland” (fin. Suomen Kristillinen Liitto ; Swedish Finlands Kristliga Förbund ). It emerged mainly from the Christian wing of the collection party (Kok) . In 2001 the name was changed to "Christian Democrats".

In April 2018, the party became a full member of the European People's Party .

At the local level, the Christian Democrats seek electoral alliances and list connections with other parties. The electoral success of the mandate depends on such alliances. The party has a local branch in 300 of the 311 Finnish municipalities .

ideology

The Christian Democrats are a conservative, right-of-center party. However, she tends to be left of center on some social issues .

The KD program is based on the Christian image of man. The party emphasizes the Christian faith as the basis of political work, the family as the core cell of society and the responsibility for peace . The KD speak out against same-sex marriages , abortions , euthanasia and divorces . On the other hand, the party demands respect for human dignity and social justice .
